About Me

Katherine Buckley’s photography was born from a passion for travel and the natural world which has seen her visiting forty countries over six continents in a desire to capture the cultures and wonders of many a far flung place.

Heralding from the beautiful Northern Rivers region of New South Wales on the state’s far north coast, Katherine grew up around beautiful coastal landscapes and tropical forests, scenes that have inspired a love for the environment that she has sought to capture in many of her images. A teacher by profession, Katherine’s other great love is people and their lives which are replicated here in striking detail, from remote Tibetan villages to thriving European capitals; Amazonian river settlements to bustling Beijing.

The result is a collection of striking images that reflect the wonder of the world in which we live.

'I was given my first camera for Christmas at age 10. A simple Pentax point and push which I took with me everywhere until the film door mechanism broke and I had to tape it up with masking tape at every use. Even at that early age I remember being infatuated with composition and how the slightest detail could alter a picture.

I inherited my fathers' Pentax kit in my early twenties and spent much of my initial travelling years carting this heavy equipment around the UK, Europe, Egypt and Turkey. With two old camera bodies, a zoom lens, a portrait lens and a wide angle lens I knew little on how to best use this hefty kit but experimented just the same. Moving then to a Nikon F55 I quickly became a fan. However when it came to committing to travelling the world on a year out, digital technology seemed the only way to go, and the time came to purchase my Nikon D50. Armed with two lenses, an 18-55mm and a 35-200m, my husband and I embarked on a 12 month journey through 24 countries.

The majority of shots taken in these albums were taken during our travels. Now settled in Australia I hope to continue my photography in capturing some of the beauty and culture of this great land. My photos are available for purchase and I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. You will find my contact details on the centre right of this page.
